With the release of former FBI Director James Comey's opening statement for his Thursday morning appearance at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, the White House has settled on a truly freaky response: James Comey will completely vindicate Donald Trump ... even though he's a stinking, dirty liar.
"I don't think it is for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct", Comey said.
Mr Comey, who was sacked by the President a month ago, describes a meeting at the White House on Valentine's Day during which Mr Trump brought up Mr Flynn.
Sacked FBI director James Comey has fronted the Senate Committe into allegations of collusions with damning statements that his firing was done without proper consultation.
"I woke up middle of the night Monday night concerned that there might be corroboration, might be a tape", Come said.
The Russia issue has dogged Trump's first months in office, with critics saying that any efforts by him to hinder the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe could amount to obstruction of justice. The Trump administration originally said Comey was sacked due to mishandling the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server. I then got up and left out the door by the grandfather clock, making my way through the large group of people waiting there, including Mr. [Reince] Priebus and the Vice President.
In preparation for Comey's testimony, Trump's team is said to be gearing up to undermine Comey's remarks.
He was conscious, as evidence came in, that if the position changed and the U.S. leader became a subject of the probe, he would have to say so in public.
